JULY 2018 FARM VISIT

J. H. Meek & Sons, Inc (The Home Ranch)

22075 County Road 99 Woodland, CA 95695

THU, JULY 19 ~ 8am-12pm and SAT, JULY 21 ~ 8am-12pm

Dear Artists and Supporters,

yolo
This month Art & Ag is visiting a premier example of the agricultural diversity of Yolo County at the peak of its productivity.

J.H. Meek and Sons, Inc. is a long-established farming operation which spans throughout Yolo and Solano counties and includes the Home Ranch in Woodland. Fourth generation farmer Steve Meek oversees this property along with his son, Sam. The Home Ranch produces row crops including squash, tomatoes, cucumber, corn, alfalfa, wheat and *sunflowers, as well as almond and walnut orchards.

As early California farmers, the Meek family established the Meek Estate in Cherryland (now Hayward) - a 3,000 acre expanse where they planted stone fruit orchards and raised horses. In the 1940s Steve's grandfather began farming south of Knight’s Landing, where they still farm, and in 1945 J.H. Meek and Sons, Inc. was established at the Home Ranch.

The Home Ranch headquarters is located at the corner of Rd 27 and Rd 99 and features an array of new and vintage farm equipment and a 70+ year old barn - the centerpiece of this busy hub of activity.

There is plenty to explore as you drive along the field roads. Artists may set up and look out upon the vast row crops. Additional points of interest include original barn and outbuilding built by Steve's grandfather and the shady tree-lined Willow Slough. Another choice: drive further down Rd 99 and stop at Meek's father's first shop and barn built in the 1930's. Farm maps will be provided.

Steve and his wife Karen look forward to your visit and welcome you to their farm.

*Sunflowers will be past their yellow-flowered prime and ready for harvest
